In partnership with GKFF, the Oklahoma Birth Equity Initiative (OKBEI) and its Community Doula Program have ensured that families are seen, heard and supported from early pregnancy to the months immediately following childbirth. OKBEI’s Doula Program has not only halved preterm birth rates for Black mothers, but has also reduced instances of low birth weight among families in the program.

As of winter 2024, OKBEI has supported 279 births and trained 140 community-based doulas as part of the program’s commitment to equipping families in Tulsa to have healthy deliveries. Watch to see how OKBEI is reducing maternal health disparities by restoring dignity and supporting families every step of the way.
