A multi-faceted approach
Growing Together Tulsa is committed to eliminating inequalities for families in the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood.
Dedicated to addressing inequalities for families in the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood, Growing Together collaborates with community members to create conditions for success, including excellent schools, high-quality affordable housing, safe and vibrant public spaces, active resident engagement and economic development.
As a driving force for change, it serves as a community “quarterback,” coordinating efforts among partners, while also delivering direct services to bring these goals to life.
Affordable housing
With support from GKFF and partnerships with leading affordable homebuilders and developers, Growing Together is driving new housing initiatives to provide high-quality homes for families of all income levels. The organization also established and operates the Kendall-Whittier Neighborhood Trust, which develops mixed-income rental housing. These efforts have resulted in the creation of more than 575 high-quality, mixed-income housing units since investments in the neighborhood began.
Investing in education
Growing Together is creating a comprehensive neighborhood education pipeline, spanning from early learning through 12th grade. This work includes collaborating with educators, supporting student-engagement programs and partnering with schools such Tulsa Educare. Additionally, they implement Communities in Schools, an evidence-based program that connects students with vital community resources and support to ensure their success in school and beyond.
Building a thriving community
The initiative enhances community vibrancy by investing in local assets and empowering residents to become active agents of change. Efforts include improving neighborhood parks and establishing programs like Fuerza and the Community Leadership Institute, which train residents to be effective community advocates.
Supporting growth
Growing Together is dedicated to driving economic development and fostering neighborhood vibrancy by supporting local small businesses. Originally launched as the Mi Gente loan fund during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist immigrant-owned businesses, the organization is now incubating Avanzando Juntos, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) focused on investing in immigrant-led enterprises.
