Building a more just system
Oklahoma has one of the highest incarceration rates, disproportionately affecting women and Black individuals. This high level of penalization limits rehabilitation opportunities and perpetuates cycles of poverty and incarceration.
ProsperOK works to address the causes and effects of the criminal justice system. The initiative prioritizes efforts that develop pathways to opportunity, intervene early on to reduce potential incarcerations, promote community safety and mental health, invest in the power and capacity of communities and shape policy and research for reform.
Since founding in partnership with GKFF, the Justice and Mobility Fund and the Public Welfare Foundation in 2021, ProsperOK has invested $16 million into scalable solutions that reduce incarceration, bolster safety and improve economic mobility.
The initiative has taken policy actions that have benefitted more than 150,000 Oklahomans and helped more than 2,400 Oklahomans who were affected by the criminal justice system gain access to education, work and economic opportunities.
